THEATER: “Superior Donuts.” a Play about Chicago’s Diverse Communities Opens on Broadway – NYC

Described as a provocative comedy set in the heart of one of Chicago’s most diverse communities, Superior Donuts centers on Arthur Przybyszewski, who owns a dilapidated donut shop in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Franco Wicks, a black teenager who is his only employee, wants to change the shop for the better. The play explores the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship.

The full cast from the original Chicago Steppenwolf Theatre production will reprise their roles when the play makes its Broadway debut, including Michael McKean as Przybyszewski. McKean is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Squiggy's friend, Leonard 'Lenny' Kosnowski, on the TV sitcom Laverne and Shirley.

Superior Donuts begins Broadway previews Sept. 16 and opens Oct. 1 at the Music Box Theater (239 West 45th Street, NYC).
